Double image with planets/stars

Hi folks, recently bought some 25x70 Skymaster binoculars. Fairly content with them apart from when viewing stars/planets, because when I try to focus in, the image becomes double. It is okay when I view with just one eye but obviously that's not a satisfactory solution. I got them off ebay and before I go through the hassle of returning them, wondering if there is an easy fix.

If these were bought new then sounds like the collimation is out giving you two images instead of one. I would ask for a replace pair to be sent out if you can.

Agree sounds as if out of collimation giving you a double image and if bought new return them

There are guides on the net to recollimate bins but if you do you will void any warranty on them

Best option is to send em back mate

During the day point them at a distant object, telephone pole, etc.  Close one eye and see where it appears in the field with the open eye.  Repeat the process with your other eye.  If they do not appear in approximately position, one may be higher, lower, etc., then the culmination is off.

Did you adjust the width between the lenses to see if that solves it?

Planets are a good test of collimating as you hav found out. If new then get them warranty replaced, sometimes you can get duds. If second hand then you could get Gary at http://binocular-repair.co.uk/ to collimate the, for you.

Double image in bins means they are out of collimation. Send them back. Less trouble than collimating them youself.
