HEQ5

Hi All!

 

Can i mount my scientific explorer ED80 direct to the HEQ5? or will i need another mounting plate and or tube rings?

Yes, easily. Your scope is hardly 3kg and the HEQ5 takes a lot more weight than that. Change the dovetail (plate) only if your scope was noticeably heavy. Even then, the supplied dovetail should do just fine. A lot of us are just fussy and we tend to upgrade over the slightest concern. Wait until you get hit by aperture fever.

When you say 'direct' to the mount I'm not sure it's clear what you mean... What has your ED80 already got in the way of tube rings and dovetail?

Hi

I mean by using the dovetail on the scope and slot it onto the HEQ5. Have attached the image. It does fit, but im just checking :).

Well, if it fits, you're OK ☺ 

Hopefully the balance point for the OTA with all equipment fitted will be somewhere within the range of the fixed dovetail...

The Explore Scientific ED80 is fitted with a Vixen/Skywatcher compatible dovetail bar, so it will fit an HEQ5.
