August 2018 New Moon Spotting

It’s nearly time for my monthly New Moon spotting challenge. Sharp-eyed North Americans with clear skies might attempt to spot the less than one-day-old Moon after sunset on Saturday, August 11, although success is rather unlikely. Most others should have much better luck during the following evening.

Photos and descriptions of the young crescent Moon this month would be welcome additions to this thread.

Below is a photo that I shot from Arlington Heights, Illinois of the Moon on 2011 Aug 31 at 19:55 CDT while it was aged 2.9 days.

From my location it will be less than 2 degrees above the horizon at sunset tomorrow so I might have to wait a day or two to see it, unless I can find a way to see through the 800ft hill directly to the west of me ?
