Looking for the most efficient way of coupling kit to mount

Recommended Posts

I've bought an adapter to connect Nikon lenses to my ASI1600 camera, and am having a go at setting it all up. Currently I've piggy-backed the various bits 'n' bobs to my ED-80, but I wonder if there's a more efficient way to do it, as the telescope itself is essentially redundant; it's just a heavy skeleton for everything else to attach onto! If the experiment works out, it could result in a good portable set-up.

So, any suggestions for an efficient (i.e. cheap and light!) but safe way of coupling the following items:

* https://www.firstlightoptics.com/guide-cameras/sky-watcher-evoguide-50ed-guidescope.html
* https://www.firstlightoptics.com/finders/rigel-quikfinder-compact-reflex-sight.html

to an HEQ5-Pro: https://www.firstlightoptics.com/skywatcher-mounts/skywatcher-heq5-pro-synscan.html

I'm guessing the answer is here somewhere: https://www.firstlightoptics.com/dovetails-saddles-clamps/page/1/

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Lee, I don't have the answer, but if I was doing this I would try and mount to a Dovetail bar (like the scope should) - you could even use that bar if you can remove it.
All screws are standard sizes and there is always some plate or mount to get kit mounted to these bars.
You can then mount/unmount from the head quickly.

All the best.

if you can piggyback it on a scope, it can be attached to a dovetail, simple as that.
a little bit out of the box thinking will give you plenty ideas.

If you can not attach your stuff to  a dovetail, screw it on a piece of wood and screw that to your dovetail.
