Finderscope for Mak?

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I just acquired a SW Mak 150 and I'm looking for some finderscope  that works well, is a red dot zero mag. or a 9X50 finder better?
Thank you very much
Paul

For a mainly planetary scope I prefer a 9x50 RA finder as it allows you to get spot on a target better than a red dot finder. For DSOs where you just have to be about in the right place a red dot is fine and maybe even easier.

Your Mak will have a narrow field of view so a 9x50 RACI would be a good way of allowing you to see more of the sky ad stars that are not visible to the naked eye to help find your way around. A Rigel Quickfinder added to that set-up to allow you to hone in on your target would be a good addition.

9x50 RACI and some sort of red dot/circle is always my answer, no matter the scope.

Agreed: RACI plus a red dot finder to get you in the right area. Mine is taped to the cylindrical barrel of the RACI, or I use a dual finder adaptor (which is a little cumbersome sometimes).

I use a 9x50 RACI modified to be a finder guider with my QY5l-iic. I connect to PHD for a visual o/p, not guiding. I find I can then use this to bring the target into the field of view of the ASI224 and firecapture with relative ease.

Another vote for the 9x50 raci and as previously mentioned an additional rdf adds to the joy.
