(NOT!) Drilling Concrete Fence Posts

Recommended Posts

Any traffic on the cul-de-sac road looks directly into my obsy door.
So recently upgraded / raised the screening fence in front of it! ?

During the (otherwise painless - I got The Builders in!) process,
I broke my little Weather Station (Snapped anemometer cup)! ?

The new fence now has Concrete Posts, rather than wood posts,
but I am rather WARY of drilling into them to attach my Weather
Station mast? It is only lightweight, but *concrete posts* seem a
notorious for cracking... have internal reinforcing bar/wire etc. ?

Aside: My neighbour used twin-thread "concrete masonry bolts"
to hang heavy gates. Despite his confidence... the post cracked!

Then I came across:

http://www.postfix.f9.co.uk/ (Some available on Amazon etc.)

Won't hold TONS of weight? But a few could come in handy
for solving these annoying little "How To" DIY conundrums?
Not yet ordered... Various configurations... But have Hopes! ?

Good find, I had to drill 2 x 6mm holes in 10 concrete posts to bolt on brackets for my wifes railway, took for ever using an assortment of masonry, diamond and steel drills

Ha that's a cool railway :)

Does your wife use it to drop off drinks/snacks while you're out with the scope? Lol

No, but I've used it to send drinks to her on the lounger

A bit off-topic (though we did use some fence posts) - some years ago when Tim was alive we built a full size narrow gauge railway from the big shed (used as a cattle barn by previous owners) round to the back porch and used to carry wood and anthracite for the Rayburn in the kitchen.  It was 2ft gauge industrial track previously used in a coal mine in North Devon.  Tim was "into" narrow gauge railways in a big way!  Taken up some time ago though just leaving track from the gates into the barn and on to the goad shed for bails of silage and straw for the goats, of which one remains.

Have you got any pictures ?

My OLD SKOOL used to have a *Railway*! (Didn't everyone's back then?) ?
"Post Pubescent Boys" (TM) of ALL ages did stuff like that... Considerably
extended after I left? Ironically (talking concrete) the school (background)
was totally demolished after a  mere 20(?) years! It was discovered it had
"Concrete Cancer" (sorry 'bout that) apparently... How things do change! ?

No, 18 volt with digital control so you could in theory run several loco's at once but 2 is quite enough to keep control of

A cleverer person than me could automate it via PC.

I thought those brackets looked familar! Postfix is run by Graham, a friend of mine. He also loves his trains and regularly posts photos from his train spotting travels on Facebook :)

Well, the first set I bought turned out well. I need a (slightly different) second set to
do the precise job I want. A small amount of "judicious bending" too. But I see that
as product versatility! Quite why they have to "dome" ONE fence post face? But... ?

I never had a shortage of power using my old Duette 12V controller, back in the 70s with Dublo 3-rail. Those was the days...
