Hello all.

I've been lurking here for a while!

It's my birthday soon and I'm getting a Celestron Nexstar Evolution 9.25!!! I've had a 10" dob for a number of years and a 3" EQ before that. Now I'm planning on doing some imaging. I have quite a bit of experience overall but I'm a complete newbie to the world of astro imaging. As a Sky at Night Magazine reader I am a fan of the binocular tour and the deep sky tour and look forward to finding out what an ASCOM file is!

Regards

Graeme

Hi, Graeme, and welcome to SGL.

The nexstar will give you great views and some lovely images of solar system objects quite quickly. If you are planning on imaging galaxies, etc (DSOs) that will be a much steeper learning curve at that focal length. Results will very much depend on the quality of the mount you will be using. This would be an excellent investment, if that is your aim.

Enjoy the journey.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

I know what you mean about the 2350mm focal length being a struggle for deep sky objects but my 10" dob is 1200mm at f5 has shown me some lovely sights (especially after I read up on collimation!) but it is always a struggle to find things. The Evo will find things and stay on them!

I'm currently reading Astrophotography by Mark Thompson in the Philips series. I'll have a look at the Steve Richards book, thanks.

Regards

Graeme
