Mars Composite Images 13 July

Hi, all!

These images were taken from video shot on the Orion StarShoot 5MP Solar System Camera with my Orion SkyView Pro 180mm Mak from 29 June to 13 July. As you can see, the dust storm has taken its toll on resolving detail on the Red Planet. Now, even the polar albedo regions seemed to have dimmed. But some dark areas manage to peek through the dust.

These images were taken from video using my Orion Deep Space Video Camera II, tweaked for solar system imaging, with the same scope from 10 June through 13 July. From early June you can really see the difference the dust storm has made in terms of capturing detail:

Clear skies (here and on Mars)!

Nice work Reggie. Testing out a new (to me) mount tonight, so had a looksie at a Mars and did notice by eye that there was some dark features staring to be visible on Mars, so fingers crossed!

Fingers, toes and eyes, Gus, lol! :D

Dusteee... but it looks like it might be settling down???

The dimming of the polar regions is a little discouraging, but some dark features are barely visible. We can only hope!

We have between 2 weeks and a month left for it to clear for us to get the optimal views... there's still hope...

Some decent detail visible, it does sound like the conditions are beginning to improve up there.

Paul posted this article in the observing section recently so things are looking up:
