Which CLS Filter?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, which CLS filter would be best? I get nasty red rings around the stars with my modded Canon and wondered if one of these would stop that.

I don't think a light pollution filter will help.

I get the red ring with my modded Canon, even with  the Astronomik CLS CCD filter. The best suggestion I've found which works is to adjust the focus so that there is a blue ring rather than a red one.

That said, I do need the filter and for my heavily light polluted back garden skies and wouldn't be without it.  The image comes out with a lot more blue and the green part of the spectrum is rather weak, but without it, 30 seconds at ISO 1600 washes the sky out to an unprocessable pink mush.

Hi. If you simply want to lose the red halos, maybe better -cheaper- to try one of these instead?

Hello Alexxx,

There was an IDAS LP filter  (2" though?? )  on AB&S recently. They are meant to be very good..... although it has been reported that they may be subject to internal reflections...    anyway...  it was a good reduction.   It might help.

EDIT:

It has just popped up on the classified on SGL.

Sean.
