Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f/2 experiences

Recommended Posts

Best piece of kit I've ever bought, very solid build, great quality even wide open. I've got mine mounted to an ASI1600 via an eos2ccd adapter and TS filter drawer. Had to do some hacking to get the focus right (reduce the length of one of the adapters that came with the zwo). I'm not very good at imaging, this one has no calibration, but it's just 1 hour of data if I remember correctly.

Hi,

Thanks for your post. I have used the lens with my Canon DSLR's, a 600D and a modded 700D on my Star Adventurer and CG-5 mounts. I rate the lens as excellent and capable of being used at f/2 with no worries. There is a review here-https://www.lenstip.com/442.11-Lens_review-Samyang_135_mm_f_2.0_ED_UMC_Summary.html

Here are two images taken with the lens and DSLR using an Astronomik 12nm Ha filter.

I use one of these-https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/language/en/info/p9891_TS-Optics-Telephoto-Lens-and-Camera-holder-with-Vixen-style-dovetail-bar.html

Steve

And how do you fit ASI to the mount?
I have mono so + filter wheel...

Sorry for the late reply, re my assembly, the canon2eos adapter has a footplate with 1/4" hole in it, I use that to fix either to a star adventurer L-bracket or to a small dovetail bar. It seems ok to hold solidly both the lens and camera. With a filter wheel I suspect you'll need additional support using maybe the ring they sell for the ASI1600.

Thanks for sharing!

I was not able to find it on google without some part names you wrote :) you placed me on the right direction.

Mine should probably look like this
https://365astronomy.com/ZWO-EOS-Lens-Adapter-for-ZWO-EFW-and-ASI1600-Camera.html
+ Samyang 135mm

And it becomes almost the smallest Mono setup

Still not sure about ASI Holder Ring...

Lens will be left in the air as Canon adaptor will not reach the dovetail.

I now think of something like this http://www.opticstar.com/Run/Astronomy/Astro-Accessories-Telescopes-Opticstar.asp?p=0_10_5_1_8_110  (not sure about ring sizes...) to hold ASI and Lens and all

to go on this https://astroshop.eu/mounting-plates-and-rails/ts-optics-guidemount-ultra-compact-vixen-gp-level-dual-mount/p,52115

Will be used as piggyback on 130PDS or independently.

Thanks for the answers guys, how do you mount the lens? Do you add lens support or do you have a tripod ring, or does it just hang off the bayonet mount like this:

I have not used Samyang yet at all, but while looking for my ZWO ASI options I saw quite an interesting option for DLSR
