Hi all

Returning to the realm of the telescope after many years away! Live in a highly urban location (complete with neighbours who love uneccessarily bright garden lights) so looking for some dark sky suggestions and like minded folk to observe with ?

Any members of BAS on here?!

cheers,

Rob

Hi Rob,

I've been a member of BAS for 3 years now. Good society - I've really enjoyed it !

We have a small observatory sited at Failand under reasonably good skies.

I've been in the hobby for 30+ years here at Portishead so not far from yourself.

Welcome to the Stargazers Lounge and welcome back to astronomy

so looking for some dark sky suggestions

Welcome, Rob, to this friendly forum from a German stargazer (visual only)!

Just in case you haven't already found this:

https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#zoom=10&lat=6701960&lon=-288505&layers=B0FFTFFFFF

All these maps showing light pollution have their limitations, but are helpful as a first guidance. You can (in the toggle menu) enable "SQM/SQC overlay and filters" to get the more precise SQM/SQM-L values for some dark sky places.

Hope this helps; welcome back to the hobby/way of life, and enjoy!

Stephan
