Hello I am Chris

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone .My name is Chris and I live in Exeter, Devon. I have been interested in astronomy for over 50 years.

As there don't seem to be any astronomy societies in the immediate area, it would be great to meet a fellow astronomer who lives nearby.

Hi, Chris, and welcome to SGL.

'Tother end of Dorset is not really "nearby", but we do have a number of Devon residents, so hopefully you will get to meet.

Hi Chris,

Forgive me if you already know this, but there are three astronomical societies within striking distance of you.

Norman Lockyer Observatory Society (Sidmouth) - http://normanlockyer.com/our-society/

Tiverton and mid-Dorset Astronomical Society - http://www.tivas.org.uk/

Torbay Astronomical Society - http://www.torbayastro.org.uk/

Thanks for all your warm greetings. Thanks for your advice DeepSkyBagger. Unfortunately I don't have my own transport to  get to any of these societies. I did contact the Norman Lockyer  Society to see if they had any members in the Exeter area that might be willing to give me a lift, but they said they couldn't due to the Data Protection Act.!

Thanks anyway

Chris

Hi Chris,

NLO are talking through their hats. They can send a message out to their members, including your email address and asking if anyone could give you a lift. Then any members who could help could contact you directly without any breach of data protection. Sounds like you contacted a very lazy person. Try again, and ask nicely that they send out an email asking for help.

Best of luck.

Don't worry Chris, you have a fantastic Astronomical Society right here.
A veritable Library of knowledge resides on this forum, and it's all free for the asking.
Don't be shy in asking for help should you need any, you'll likely be
deluged with replies ?.
Welcome to the best Astro. Site you will find anywhere on planet earth.
