Covering Telescope overnight

Camping this weekend and want to get up early to do some pre-dawn observing.

 

I have a big reflector, can I just throw a plastic tarp over it at night so it will be ready to go in the pre-dawn?

 

Dew will be heavy.

Hi Don,

Yes, a plastic tarp held in place with bungy cords or similar would be fine. Alternatively, 'toilet tents' are often used.

Genius!!! I was just at the sporting goods store the other day and saw one of these things. It's been a long time since I've been camping where I didn't have a portable toilet or an actual restroom facility close by. I was thinking to myself, why and when would I really need one of these? So I just dismissed it. This would be the perfect use for one. Still think I'll stick with a tarp and bungy cords though.

Shower caps are also good for the ends.

When there's heavy dew I throw an old flannel bedsheet over the scope and then cover with the Geopik plastic cover. Scope is free of dew ready for pre-dawn session.
