I'm 54 yrs old and from Newcastle. I have always had a casual interested in astronomy but i have not had the time to persue this interest as i work away from home, mainly in Holland. As i have just been laid off yet again (an occupation hazzard working as a contractor) I decided to by a telescope to have a peek at what's out there and to keep myself away from working men's clubs and online poker. So I am waiting for the Skywatcher 10" Dobsonian that I bought today from FLO (Steve seems like a decent bloke) and will let you know how i get on next week...i'm off on holiday for a few days with my wife to a small place in Scotland, i have already been thinking about buying a smaller telescope to take to the caravan we have up there where the light pollution is minimal.

Hi and welcome to SGL. Good choice of first scope. Scotland has some good dark skies. Whereabouts is your caravan? Do you have any bino's you could take; they can be great for a quick look at the sky?
