M51 - Sony A7S on Celestron C11

Recommended Posts

M51 the Whirlpool Galaxy taken on Thursday 19 April during our brief spell of good weather.

H-alpha modified Sony A7S on Celestron C11 with Starizona 0.72x large format corrector.  240x30sec exposures at ISO 10000, dithered every 3 exposures, giving 2 hours of total exposure time.

Calibrated and stacked using Bayer Drizzle in PixInsight for maximum sharpness.  ArcsinhStretch used to stretch the data.  Mild deconvolution applied to the brighter regions to enhance detail.  Mild noise reduction applied using the camera raw filter in Photoshop.

Very nice M51 Mark, did you see they've found a big patch of Hydrogen gas nearby to the left of your image, don't know if it's imageable.

Thanks Dave.

No I didn't know about the patch of Hydrogen.  Can you point me to some info on it?
