Just a qwick pic of the new AR2706 taken at 08.30 thismorrning from a very sunny south wales.

Where do you get the catalog/numbers from, ie AR2706?

thanks MG I send a message to my brain and after a bit of grunting and cold sweats it comes back with the number , no I keep a record and just work it out from there usally beating the official numbers online. charl.

As each sunspot area appears on the visible side of the disk it is given the next sequential number. Each one isn't necessarily "new" as when they go around the back and then re-appear they are given a new number rather than retaining their old one.

yer spaceweathers a cool site but sometimes you can be waiting days for them to post it, thats why i keep a record but sometimes i get it wrong like michael fish . charl.

Skies have cleared here now so good solar viewing again today. Five obvious sunspots comprising the new group.
