Even if the lights don't go out entirely, I'd be ecstatic if authorities both local and national took the problem of light pollution at least half seriously.

If street lamps were properly shielded, had warm colour and were only as bright as they needed to be. If illuminated buildings had an exterior lighting curfew. If civilian outdoor lights were at least partially enforced to be installed and orientated properly. Most medium-sized cities could be bortle 5 in the city center, and maybe even bortle 3-4 in the suburbs and 2-3 with a 20 minute drive out of town. The worst part is that isn't necessarily expensive, it just takes awareness and some motivation.

I hope to see M31 from my back garden with my naked eyes one day, but I debut I will.
