Ngc 2264 Open Cluster in Monoceros

Recommended Posts

Hi all. This is Ngc 2264 or the Christmas Tree Cluster. Located around 2600 light-years away in the north-eastern corner of the constellation of Monoceros

The designation of NGC 2264 in the New General Catalogue refers to both the Christmas Tree Cluster and the Cone Nebula, and not the cluster alone. Two other objects are within this designation but not officially included: the Snowflake Cluster and the Fox Fur Nebula (Sh2-273). At the top is the 6th magnitude star HD 47887. Close to this star lies the Cone nebula, which is very hard to detect visually. Several stars of magnitude 8 to 9 mark the outline of the cluster. I captured this over two nights 10+12/03/18

4 hours in 300 second guided subs with my Skywatcher 80ed and Asi 071 pro cooled to -20 at 0 gain.

Mounted on a Skywatcher AzEq6

Captured with Sequence Generator Pro.

Richard.
