well it was March when i posted this, i contacted the site and they said the existing pods were booked but they were planning building more for the summer, they took my details and said they would contact me when they were taking bookings for the new units, i had given up on hearing from them as it is now August until i got a phone call from them yesterday offering me a booking for the weekend of the party, so i am now booked for the Friday and Saturday evening and have booked for the food for both nights. I know no one from the group and am new to the hobby so i am hoping to make new friends and learn some stuff see you all there

Hi, I have booked 3 nights (fri, sat & sun) thro FLO and have received confirmation of my payment etc. How do I find out which pitch I have been actually allocated?, and will there be a map published showing who is where.

Thanks Bob.

A pitch plan will appear sometime :)

Do you have a tent or caravan ?

Hi Dave, thanks for reply, I have a motorhome and requested a pitch in the range 104-108. Will Lucksall management have a list of who is where?.

Bob.

A pitch plan will appear here eventually when there may be a bit of shuffling around depending on demand.

104 / 108 is handy for the facilities

Bob - Grant works very closely with the staff at Lucksall and we have been going there for nearly 10 years so they know what we want. A pitch plan will be posted in due course together with arrangements - talks etc. I live 10 minutes away from Lucksall so if anyone wants info, advice about the local area I am around to provide it.

This will be my first time and have never seen the site.  I have a tent pitch with power hook up, but does anyone have an idea roughly how far the hook ups are away from the tent area so I can make sure my lead is long enough?

Last year was my first SGL starparty, from memory the hook ups are pretty close. It might be pitch dependant? There may be others who can speak with more experience. I think when i bought my ehu lead, most were in standard lengths of 10, 15 or 25m. I have 15m and it was easily long enough with plenty to spare.

Hi Mark, thanks for your response. I have attended the Lucksall star party on a number of previous occasions and with the old system of direct booking did not have any issues. However last year I only specified a hardstanding pitch and ended up with a very limited view of the southern sky and no Sat' TV reception to keep the "chief cook and bottle washer happy" !!. So I am trying to avoid this situation recurring which is the reason for requesting confirmation of occupying one of the pitches I specified. I do appreciate that organising an event such as this does take a lot of work, but would like the option to, if necessary, cancel my booking in due time for a refund.

Best regards.

Bob.

Thanks, Steve, that's really helpful.  I already have a 15m one so am hoping that will be enough as I don't really want to buy a longer one if I don't need to.

I'll be posting up a pitch plan within the next week - I have the details here just need to transfer them to the plan and post it up but I'm currently on holiday so it'll need to wait until early next week.

Checking, I can see you have been allocated 102 as 103-109 had already been allocated to other people but you are on the same row / side as 104-108.

Do you park near your pitch or do you have to offload and then go and park elsewhere?  Excuse my ignorance, this is a new venture for me.

The pitches are pretty big so you usually park on your pitch or just in front of it - no carrying stuff miles ?

Should be fine. Put it like this, I'm not buying a longer one so if 15m isn't long enough, I'm in trouble!

Hey Rushy.    I'll be bringing my LX-90 as well.  Had mine for over 15 years and I love it.    I'm more than happy to run through everything with you and make sure that you are fully up to speed with it.

Hi Ray

The arrangements are similar to Kelling, with similarly sized pitches.  The only real difference is that many pitches have hard standing.  Unfortunately the skies aren't as dark as at Kelling, but the skies are still pretty good, especially to the South and West.

Personally, I tend to regard Kelling as a observing with some socialising and SGL as socialising with some observing.

Thanks, Michael, sounds perfect.  I am keen on the socialising bit as this is my first one, so that bit seems ideal.
