I'm a total novice, ill be using a star travel 102mm scope and a manual eq3-2 mount.

ive a celestron x2 and x3 mag barlow and the Logitech pro 4000 webcam which has been modified for use.

I'm looking for some help on basic settings within sharpcap to get me up and running or any other advice would be welcomed.

I don't have a polarscope at the moment so itll be a rough polar alignment. I just plan hopefully on trying to capture a few images of jupiter

I think first try out I would not use a barlow. It will be tricky enough to keep Jupiter in the FOV using a webcam I think. The nice thing is you run the video and let Jupiter drift through the FOV. Stop the video, preposition and start the capture again as Jupiter again drifts across the FOV.

For any planetary imaging, the fastest frame rate that you can get is good. At least 30 fps

You will need to push the gain quite high to get 40 - 100 fps

For Jupiter, to keep it simple, aim for less than 60 seconds of video to avoid blurring due to Jupiter's rotation.

Use PiPP and AS!2 or AS!3 to stack the best frames ( anywhere from 20% - 80%) depending on seeing and Registax for sharpening using wavelets (which is a black art in itself)

Regards

Neil
