Less than 1% illuminated crescent tonight (16th)

Recommended Posts

There is a 0.7% illuminated crescent moon just to the left and below Venus this evening. I spotted Venus last at just after 5pm around 10 degrees high, so hopefully I might be able to spot the moon tonight.

I think there is only around 45 minute window max.

I tried last night: the Chinese new year, but I could not see the moon, it was clear, so I hope tonight will be able to see it--and it is clear still.

Saw it when I went to the chip shop earlier, looked very nice but not visible from home.

Had a lovely naked eye view of a thin sliver dodging in and out of the clouds. Didn't get the scope out as I only had a small clear patch, otherwise total cloud.

I wish it would stay a thin sliver...doesn't seem five minutes since the Super-Blue- Moony-Thingy was drowning out everything else for night after night! :cussing::crybaby2::grin:

Do observations of chip shops count as astronomy?
