February 13, 2018: Clear skies and an AR visible = bliss

Recommended Posts

Skies are beautifully clear here for a change, so I had a brief solar lunch session with the SolarMax-II 60mm DS. Unusually, when I set up the scope, the tuning of the double-stack set-up (which can be finicky) was spot on from the word go, so I didn't touch a thing and enjoyed the views. The AR showed up mainly as a bright patch of plage with several filaments stretching out on either side. Close to the centre of the disk, another filament could be seen, and in the south-east and high up north more, short but quite dark filaments could be spotted. Several PhD students joined me to have a look. Great fun after a long period of cloud
