Need some help with Celestron specific runaway slew

Thought I would try stellarium telescope control with mackintosh air and a 6se celestron, worked great a few years back.

latest version 0.17

connected scope to mac - used single star alignment for quick test.

can slew using stellarium from betelgeuse to Procyon and back no problem

can slew from m42 to betelgeuse no problem

can slew around Procyon in any direction no problem

but if I try and go from m42 to rigel it shoots off at high speed to the right and up, and stops at a 90 degree limit?

ive reset the 6se celestron handset back to  factory settings

m42 is near the 0 degree line?

ive tried the entire test as explained above on a normal PC and it's exactly the same problem, certain slews don't work

all slews from the celestron 6se handset work fine, and the telescope target is displayed on the correct stellar object in stellarium.

The problem is certain goto slews commanded by  stellarium (control -1) send the scope in the wrong direction

cordwrap is off ( I think)

any ideas welcome

its the first time I've used one star alignment maybe it's that? (Cloudy, just estimate Betelgeuse to get rough alignment)
