Hershel wedges - Lunt or Baader (any other?)

Recommended Posts

It really depends on how much you want to spend. I opted for the Lunt Herschel 1.25 wedge and in conjunction with the Baader solar continuum filter it gives very nice views. The Baader wedge is a good bit more expensive but many on here recommend it. I believe it out scores the Herschel wedge at higher magnifications but I have no experience with it.

I previously had a 1.25" Lunt and it was really great for the money. I do feel the baader has the edge but it's not by much and as I say it's convenience that I use the Baader. Also, the optical length of the stripped down Baader is actually less than the 1.25" Lunt and for BVs this matters.

I'm not an avid solar observer but I have a Lunt 1.25" Herschel Wedge and it works pretty well with my 100, 102 and 120 refractors. I use a single polariser filter rather than the solar continum. I think the best views using the HW have probably with with the Tak FC100.
