Stellarium telescope control device settings non port

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am trying to control my Heq5 pro via SynScan (ver 3.10) with Stellarium (on MS Win10, 64 bit). I got the proper cable and adapter to connect to the usb port (via an adaptor for the RS-232).  In Stellarium I follow the instructions to add a telescope / configure / add new telescope  but when I get at the level of the device settings (see image), the field to select the port is blank and cannot be edited.

I know I am using port : Port_#0001.Hub_#0004 (from checking the device manager) on my laptop. I tried installing Ascom but I still can't find the port there neither.

I tried using a different port #3 but same issue.

Anyone knows a work around the issue?

Thank you

This is not a valid port description for the link you need.

First of all, are you connecting to your PC from the serial port on the handset....if so then you do need Ascom and the Skywatcher Mount driver from the Ascom site.

If you are connecting with an direct cable (EQMOD) then you need the Stellarium scope add on utility, to control your amount, as I don’t think Stellarium does direct mount control for the Skywatcher mounts, well it didn’t two months ago anyaway, as I got mine up and running this way with EQMOD cable and Stellarium scope.... :)

This may help, as I think my explanation involves the EQMOD software which is what i use, but don’t think you are, but still think you need the Skywatcher Mount driver from there site...

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/570521-new-eq6-mount-sky-watcher-question-about-ascomsoftware-control/

also when you are in device manager at the top, there will be a button to click which will enable the COM ports to be seen in the list, it’s not enabled by default hence you not seeing them properly.. HTH

You don't require Ascom or Eqmod to control a mount through Stellarium. Stellarium has its own built in mount drivers for Celestron, Skywatcher V3 or later EQ and AZ mounts and Meade mounts.

Where did you find this ? The info for your serial/usb adapter should be in device manager> lpt and comm ports. I would also take the opportunity to update the firmware on the handset.

V3 handcontroller firmware

I suspect that the serial/usb adapter has not been recognised by the device manager. Check in device for any yellow warning triangles and investigate.

to make it clear, my issue is WIN 10- Stellarium relationship... I do not get a list in the drop down: Serial port  (same issue with Ascom) field is blank.

Then windows hasn't detected your USB to RS232 adapter / installed it's driver... if windows doesn't see any devices providing a com port, nor will anything else.

Post a screenshot of the windows device manager...

Which USB> Serial adaptor are you using???

I couldn't wait for shipment so I grab a USB Serial adapter from Staples: Belkin prolific. It came with its own drivers and it fixed the issue.

Now all I have to figure out is why the target is a couple of degrees off the object selected (on the screen) when I slew.

thank you all for your advice.

I'm glad to hear you're moving forward....

I can't help with Stellarium; I use CdC with EQMod to control my HEQ5/ NEQ6 mounts. - no issues, no drama.

Please find for sale my SkyWatcher 250 Reflector and NEQ6 SynScan mount.

The reflector has of course been used and shows sign of use on the outside of the tube but the mirrors show little sign of wear or tear apart from a few dust specks. As you can see from the photos the Scope is in very good condition and all viewings are welcome.

The NEQ6 mount powers up but refuses to move. This may be just an update to the handset or maybe the gears need a touch of TLC due to itself being sat doing nothing for so long. The tripod is missing the locking pin that pulls the plate up against the legs but this will be reflected in the price.

i would like to offer this to the SGL community as I know it will go to someone who will appreciate the kit and do so much more with it than I’ve been able to.

Given the fact I haven’t used this kit for a few years now and I’m also moving house, I know longer have the time or room for it so this is the only reason for sale.

      *** Update 26/1/2020
I have purchased a new support shaft for the tripod and I have also got the NEQ6 moving so the motors seem to be absolutely fine, please see latest video attached of the NEQ6 powered up and moving.
      Skywatcher 250 - £200
      NEQ6 - £450
      Collection only from Walsall/West Midlands
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them.
Wishing you all clear skies wherever you are

So I had a free day yesterday and decided to sort out my equipment and update my astro laptop software packages. I downloaded the latest Stellarium and managed to get it to sync with APT. I installed my Xmas present from my sweetheart (Optolong L-eNhance filter) how did she know it's what I wanted??? I recently installed the free trial version of Pixinsight on my main laptop so after watching a few YouTube videos decided to get some Dark and Bias frames to create some masters ready for my next session.
The weather was good yesterday and it stayed clear here as the sun started to set, so I set everything up outside hoping the apps were wrong and it wouldn't get cloudy. As it got darker I launched Sharpcap and completed a polar allingment, I used Stellarium and APT to slew to Vega and checked the focus was good. I then used Goto++ in APT to slew to NGC 7380 (Wizard Nebula), I set PHD2 off guiding and then I had my first issue; my laptop would not connect to my Lyn Astro dew controller so I manually set the temperature to quite low as it wasn't too damp at that time. So I started capturing 5 minute subs went inside and remoted into my astro laptop from my main laptop to check how it was going, all appeared good.
I recently set up a Rpi NAS at home so I'm able to transfer data to it and then to my other laptop on the go, so after I'd got a few subs I opened them in PI to check the quality, they looked ok to me. after about an hour PHD2 started binging a lost star warning so I went outside and the clouds were starting to cover the sky, I then took loads of flat frames using my main laptop, Notepad and 3 sheets of white paper and decided to take some more darks in case it cleared. I then set about trying to process the 9 subs I'd managed to capture with the 200 flat frames the master bias and dark frames I'd created earlier. Despite the lack of subs I'm quite pleased with the result, I have done a quick Histogram stretch, and the knowledge I have gained, I'm definately going to purchase PI when I can afford it.
So this morning I thought I'd sort out the issue with the connection to the Lynx Astro dew controller, you won't believe it, my Astro Laptop will not turn on, it's been playing up for a while I suspect the battery has died. So just when I thought I was getting on top of this frustrating hobby I get another spanner in the works. So do I gamble and order a new battery then discover it is the laptop that has failed, do I set up another old laptop I have and hope it will be ok, do I set up my Rpi3 with Indigo or do I buy a mini PC as I know my way around windows?
Anyway here's the calibrated stacked image as it is in PI with a quick stretch.

Hi, having recently bought a mobile (cell) phone tripod adaptor, I thought I would have a go at setting up my custom landscape view in Stellarium.
I have watched all the videos on YouTube and read all the threads on here and I think I've done everything correctly, but the custom landscape doesn't appear in the list.
I have tried this on my laptop (running Vista SP2) and my (very old) PC (running XP SP2). Neither of these work!
I have  included a screen shot of what I've done. I have obviously forgotten or missed something really basic, but for the life of me I can't see what.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you & a Ho, Ho, Ho!

      Hi,

Looking for a 12" DOB (or larger) which can be transported to Prestwick, Ayrshire. Any brand, as long as the telescope is optically sound and in good working order. I'm a reliable buyer who has bought and sold on this site before.

      Thanks,

      Mark

      Hi all,

I'm pretty new to astronomy and need help deciding if I should buy the following telescope or not, mainly if there is anything visibly missing by looking at the photos?

      Thanks in advance!
