Amazing Crab Nebula time lapse

Recommended Posts

Not sure if any of you have come across this. I saw it on Facebook:

https://www.astrobin.com/327338/0/

It was done by an amateur astronomer called Detlef Hartmann over ten years. Blew me away, amazing image.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, apologies if it's in the wrong place.

Agreed- a fantastic image and a huge investment of time to achieve. Thanks for sharing!

That a truly astonishing time lapse. To see the pulsar actually doing what you see predicted in theory is amazing. Seeing the cloud expanding is also astonishing. It’s fascinating to see how the gas flows within the nebula, just like smoke in a room. I’m sure the professionals will be analysing this.

Incredible! Thanks for spotting it. It changed my view of the universe a bit - so much happening in just 10 years! I hope this becomes a new but (unfortunately) rather slowly growing field of amateur astrophotography.

I shared it on here a couple days ago, and it is truly an amazing video!

I thought someone must have come across it already, it's probably the best amateur image I've seen.

That is amazing, I can’t believe how awesome that is. I was amazed by the NASA animation around the pulsar a few years ago but this takes it to whole new level. Wow! Thanks for sharing the link.

That is an amazing video. Ten years in the making. I wonder what it would look like after say, 25 years.
