Mewlon 210 update

Just a little follow up from last time.

The dome.

Originally I wanted a roll-off roof  observatory but after a visit to the guys at Pulsar observatories, I felt the dome was the best way to go. The only problem was the dome dominated the garden! So, to soften the visual impact, I created a (very western) Japanese garden.

Condensation.

I have used a small greenhouse heater that’s set to 5 deg C and a dehumidifier.  The 5 deg C setting is the lowest optimal temperature for operating the humidifier. Using a remote weather station, I keep an eye on the humidity and temperature. I ran this setup all last year, it worked very well and didn’t add to much cost on my electricity bill.

Here are some pictures of the observatory and the Mewlon 210.

This is proving to be an excellent visual telescope. The lunar details are truly amazing. Looking at the Orion nebular, the very fine structural details could be easily seen. It was definitely a case of ‘the more you look, the more you see!’

I bought the focal reducer/ feild flattener. I’m now working out the best way to use it with a ASI174MM (mono) camera. A project for 2018.

All the best for the New Year.

Clear skies

Steve
