deinstall current version of Stellarium and install it again

Yes this worked fine. Must be a local dll issue as I've updated 2 other computers in the same way without issue (although these were x64).

Perhaps you could add a note on the installer to uninstall first, or perhaps force uninstallation before installing the new version?

  • 2 weeks later...

Still having problems with Stellarium freezing if I close the laptop lid, I then have to kill it with Taskmanager , sent a bug report and log to Stellarium folks but they can't reproduce the problem on a similar setup.

Tried V0.16.0 and V0.17.0

This doesn't seem to happen with anything else, YT videos, P'Shop, SGL etc all restart after closing the lid.

This is running with the on board Intel graphics, there is NVidia Geoforce graphics in this laptop which Stellarium folk tried and that ran OK as well, BTW any one know how I force Stellarium to use the Nvidia graphics ?

Can anyone suggest an app similar to Stellarium that I can try ?

Thanks

Dave

Unusual....

Have you installed and run as Administrator??

I can only suggest a trial of Cartes du Ciel - see if the same thing happens.

Thanks will try Cartes du Ciel.

Oh ok - just wondered if it was the same as mine (Lenovo Z50-70) which has Nvidia hardware graphics. I think it only makes a big difference with apps that use 3d graphics. I just downloaded Stellarium 0.17.0 onto it. Checked that if I closed the lid it keeps going ok. Just have to log back in. Maybe it's something specific to your Dell? To enable the hardware graphics on mine I think it's just right click on the Stellarium icon and choose 'run with graphics processor' from the list and choose Nvidia in the box. However, I'm not sure if Stellarium actually uses hardware graphics... There is always 'run as administrator' - you never know!

It's got a list of programs to add but Stellarium isn't in the list, can I  add my own programs to the list ?
