DeepSkyBagger
You can see it with your naked eye under a dark sky, so 20x80s should show it very nicely.

Stu
It's more dependent on the sky than anything else. As DSB says, it is a lovely naked eye feature under a dark sky.

Stu
Cygnus is one of my favourite constellations. Often in late July or August I will be away camping in Devon or Dorset. It is still reasonably warm then but the sky gets properly dark. The Milky Way runs right overhead, streaming through Cygnus and the dark rift is very clear on nights when the transparency is good. Plus of course you have the Veil and North America Nebula to view through bins or a scope.

Yes, you can see both through Bins if the sky is dark enough. Putting filters on the bins helps but is not essential if the sky is good enough. The Eastern part of the Veil is easier than the Western part. Both depend on having good transparency. The NAN can just disappear if there is any thin haze up high so try on different nights if possible. If the Milky Way is clear then it should be possible.
