What did the postman bring?

These two little gems turned up recently. We were beginning to worry they had got lost, but they got here safely in the end. They make a nice part set of 6, 7, 12.5 and 18mm with the two I had already. I’ll likely use them in the AstroSystems 6” mainly, but will try them out in other scopes too, perhaps the Vixen FL102S.

Recently, I bought an Astro Tech 5.5 & 25mm flat field ep, part of a series with several f/l offered, the design of which is available under quite a variety of brand names.

Impressed with their good eyerelief, flat field, light weight, soft rubber eyecup, small girth for the entire range, and low price, I decided to get the complete set - times two - for use in a binoviewer. Testing through a 120mm f/7.5 refractor Friday night proved my choice a good one. I have been using other ep pairs in the past, and will continue with them depending on the venue/scope, but if starting over, this set would be the one to get/recommend.

They can be had in 25, 19, 15.5, 10.5 & 5.5mm flavors:

I got a 3rd 3d printer last week - anycubic kobra neo. I liked it do much, they were also selling customer returns (as non working) for 70% off.. So I took a punt and bought a 4th - anycubic kobra.. Hoping I can get it working too.

Here it is in box next to neo. Building now!

an update - I found the print head had been assembled at the factory with wrong screws so out of alignment, fixed that and was feeling quite chuffed at my bargain, when I noticed the print bed was just continuing to heat.. so the mosfet on the main board for that is also gone. I imagine they shorted the heated bed or something while trying to fix it themselves. no matter - I thought I'd just replace mosfet - but was careless heating it up to remote from board (surface mounted) and broke a track. I thought that I'd had it, so ordered a replacement board for 70 quid (will still be 100+ quid saving on new.. only to then see looking at it under microscope that the track was a top layer and I could have just soldered new mosfet onto the component connected to the track (resistor) - hey ho.

Anyway - these are about the best budget printers you can get at the mo - very highly rated in reviews. So if you are in the market - I would definately recommend giving the Kobra Neo a look.

Nice, Stu..are these 0.965" eyepieces? I've tried a few of the older Vixen "small bore" orthos, and in a modern 1.25" sleeve they were remarkably good👍

Can't beat a nice Vixen, new or old!🤗

Yes Dave, 0.965”. They are nice sharp little eyepieces and I can use them natively in the AstroSystems or with an adaptor in other scopes. I quite like using them in the Vixen FL102S as that makes it an all Vixen setup.

10" RC and .8 reducer. :)

Now, about that old EQ6....🤔

And it now looks like this. The first light thread coming to a forum near you, hopefully tonight! Just got to tidy up the cables and check what if any extension rings I need to reach focus...

Decided to try out a new tripod from Harrison Telescopes.  The carbon fibre is good, but a bit wobbly at high powers.  Also the lack of spreader was an unforeseen issue as I just leave the tripod up the shed!  Stainless, beefier and a spreader now.

Quick test with the 8mm on the setting sun and whilst there is still a bit of flex from the az5 mount, the vibration is much reduced I think.

Any rumours I got this tripod to kay the ground work for one of the fancy new az gti dual mounts is a liar.

(Please don't tell my wife)

I don't normally get to join in this thread but I was very excited about my delivery today of a Tuff Truk delivered in person by Lee! This is for the 16" StellaLyra dob I've been using for a while now to make it much much easier to move out of the garage and to position it wherever I want it.

The pictures don't do it justice - the finish and build quality are superb and the attention to detail of the design and component chances second to none - you can tell the guys at Tuff Truk take a lot of time and care over making this and I am looking forward to using it for years to come!!!
