Well, judging by the amount of water in your adjacent pool, I'd say you definitely DO need a few dew straps..in fact several dozen!!:rolleyes2::help:

I've never used one.  The home-made shield (from camping mat) does the trick.......

In preparation for a spot of planetary imaging, wanted to try a 5x Barlow along with my new Skyris planetary cam to get to approx. f/25 on my faster ‘scopes - planning ahead for Mars opposition. The only thing that softens the blow of end of holiday is back home playing around with newly arrived kit!

I had a few things waiting for me when I came back from my holidays. I had wanted one of these for a while:

By a cosmic coincidence, it was on offer in Amazon the day of my birthday, "only" £375 brand new, so I couldn't resist! It arrived only a few hours before I did, and I haven't had much of a chance to test it. I took this photo (Canon 700D) during the full moon, but I messed up with the polar alignment, and I lost my flats! Less than 20 min, so I wasn't expecting anything great anyway, but at least the lens seems to work:

These also arrived during the holidays (courtesy of FLO), and were waiting in my lab (they belong to the school). I expect to use them with the Dobsonian and the Lunt 40mm. I believe that a zoom lens will greatly improve the experience with the pupils, since swapping eyepieces isn't practical when you have many teenagers waiting, and they get frustrated that we have to find the target again.

Seeing all the wonderful captures of Perseid meteors with their All-Sky cameras by some SGL'rs has inspired me to give it a go myself. I have an old entry level Canon DSLR somewhere, so I just need to get a suitably wide angle lens for it, now I have this.

Another bargain off BUYEE.

My new 2” Baader diagonal arrived this morning for my 102 Starfield. This relegates my Tak 1.25” to my Maksutov. I like the black Baader Planetarium bag it came in.

PS:- I didn’t see the tiny Allen key hiding in the corner of the clear plastic bag it was all contained in.

I've bought several Baader products, and its a bit hit and miss as to whether the Allen key is included.

Here goes....

I saw an advert in local facebook - someone was selling what hey thought was photography gear that they had inherited, but not sure of the value. It was mainly astro stuff though, and some people were taking the mick with offers. I contacted him, not because I wanted it - there was no way I could afford it - but to tell him what they were and how much they were worth!

He thanked me, then kindly offered it to me for a price I could not refuse! It arrived today:

Yes - that's a TeleVue Ethos.

I think that's an off-axis guider?

Well. That's the weather ruined for a few months!

I think there's been a rush on these. And why not, it's a lovely piece of kit. Seen here sitting between my other two lovelies - a Starfield 102mm and an LVW22mm. Astro nirvana!

Good for you, Pixies!👍

I saw that lot and was gobsmacked at what it sold for..your honesty with the seller does you credit and you deserve the great deal the seller gave you..

I had a similar experience some years ago (on a lesser scale), and it was a good feeling - on every level.

Well done you!👍😊

I have just ordered the Baader 2” - 1.25” adapter as well. A clicklock in a clicklock. I forgot I would need one for my Morpheus eyepieces. I will wait for it to arrive before putting the diagonal on my scope.

I used to have one of these and it was easily the best diagonal I've ever owned, but it did cause some weight issues with my small refractor setups so unfortunately it had to go, I do miss it though.

Is that a single thumb screw or does it have a compression ring?

In classic Vixen style it's a single thumbscrew I'm afraid but the fitting is very precise and to be honest it has the Baader 2"-1.25" clicklock adaptor in it most of the time so it only gets used when I want to let the LVW42mm see some starlight. I've had a number of 2" Dielectrics from different brands over the years and to my eye at least, I can see no difference. I think the quality of a diagonal only starts to become apparent when using higher powers on planetary and extended objects in general. The thing I like about this old Vixen is that it is extremely light and another strange thing about it is that it is called a 50.8mm Diagonal Prism yet it is not a prism but a mirror. Bizarre!

No need to wait - your Morphs have a 2" mode, and your Starfield will happily accommodate the additional outfocus needed 🙂

Will be really interested to hear how you find it compared to the GSO, Michael. I know you were very happy with that but like me I suspect you'll find the Baader to be even better!

It’s those clouds in the way again, otherwise I would be out tonight enjoying the sky. I’ve mounted it on the Starfield and using a standard compression ring reducer until the clicklock arrives tomorrow.
