What did the postman bring?

New shizzle!

A step closer to getting a permanent pier setup.

Also managed to find one of those 12v banana plug distribution blocks. Used to be sold as HobbyKing or something. These are called Efuel and I ordered from Kopterworx in Slovenia. Ordered last Friday, delivered on Tuesday.

It's also supposed to be clear tonight...🤞

I just got back from work and the postman had left me an Explore Scientific 68 degree 24mm EP. It feels really substantial compared to my BSTs. The skies are looking ok for a test tonight.

Back from 6 weeks away at work and four small boxes sitting at my place on the dining table, the product of my lack of willpower while passing slack time on shift when faced with the classifieds here and ABS...

After a summer of bad weather and having used my telescope only a few nights, I thought I'd get a wide-angle, fast lens for Milky Way shots. At least I can set this up in a minute with only a tripod, so I can use the short spells of clear skies and drive an hour or two out of town. Also -fingers crossed- I'm spending a week in the mountains in October and I can't carry any of my gear, not even my star adventurer, so I'm setting myself the modest goal of capturing the Milky Way against a nice foreground of rugged peaks (we don't get those in Kent).

It's a Samyang 16mm F2.0 (I chose it because my Canon 77D is a cropped sensor camera), and it arrived on Friday morning:

I tested it in town centre on Friday afternoon, trying to catch a colourful sunset. It was a dull, rather cloudy evening though, so it wasn't brilliant, but I least I tried different subjects in different lights. Quite a nice lens, so far:

I tested it on Saturday night too, but I'm still sorting out the many Milky Way photos I took...

Hello all. Been a very good boy over the summer and not spent a jot on new kit.
However I plumped for this finderscope - 6x30 - arrived this morning. Nice bit of kit. Amazon website. 698EAD29-7E34-4624-9E34-AD53F60A6534.thumb.jpeg.171b2463ba885e3a5ffb0ff9545b558c.jpegEasy to align - I love the adjustment option - o ring and spring loaded.
Well chuffed.

Odd looking bit of Astro kit ...

I was looking for a replacement for the 'shower cap' that SkyWatcher supply for the Flextube dobs, as the elastic in mine had become completely loose. I also wanted one for the bottom of the tube to keep out spiders and dust as I store the scope in a shed.

I found these round stool covers on Amazon at a tenner for a pack of 4. Arrived today and lo and behold they fit! Well, only just to be honest on a 12" Flextube, but tight is good in this case. Probably OK on a 10" too

Anyway thought it might be a useful idea for someone else in the same boat.

>Non-astro related<

Although, it should be great for wide-field MW shots.

Went on sale ($150 off), so I bought it ahead of the Pentax K-3iii I'm planning to buy, and use it with, before Christmas, disasters notwithstanding.

Getting a bit obsessed with this lovely Oklop stuff

Is that for your AZ100 @JeremyS , I have the same for mine, though it's a bit of a snug fit with both saddles attached.

I also have several Oklop bags now and they are very nice bags indeed.

It haven’t tried my AZ100 in it Ade. Not thought about that.

It was bought for my AZ Gti + battery + accessories for when I go away with my Tak FOA 60Q and Berlebach Report

Aha, I hadn't thought about using it for my AZGTi and accessories so thanks for that, it's now got a second use.

Yes it doesn’t give away a lot with its obscure packaging and it’s definitely not the sexiest astronomy buy ever but  inside this bubble wrap is a cover for the 12” Dob to keep it nice and protected on its new home in the shed !  Thanks RVO for the speedy service . :)
