What did the postman bring?

A Licence for Affinity Photo and a new 15mm Celestron Luminos in a special deal from Amazon. Reviews are generally not positive for use in fast scopes with the odd dissenting voice expressing its merits. I'll be using a F/10 so hopefully ok. It's hefty but manageable.

With my budget, I don't get to post here often.

When I do spend on Astro gear, I feel like I'm in orbit.

Upgrade focuser for my 8" reflector.

Now if things would work out so I can get a good mount.

Spent 50 cents on a counterweight shaft for my AZT6.

Plain Stainless Steel Hex Bolt, M12 x 60mm | RS Components

I splashed out another 50 cents on a matching Counterweight Bar Locking Ring (for some reason the hardware storekeeper insisted on calling it a "nut"). It was a matching color!

I ran out of box filler... That's from art classes from years ago. It was like art boot camp - I wasn't allowed to use black paint, I had to mix it myself from primary colors 😁

Amazon 1.25" diagonal can only try it for less than a tenner had some good reports going to flock the inside when I get the carbon fibre sheet on Saturday.

johninderby thank you for the link and suggestion for flocking.

Courtesy of Auntie FLO and after a very long wait a pair of Vortex Optics Diamondback HD 10x50s (to replace the Helios Naturesport pair I sold months ago), a binocular harness for my Helios Lightwing 8x40s and a new tripod adaptor to fit the Diamondbacks.

I originally ordered the Vortex Crossfire 10x50s in February as a birthday present to myself but after they were absent from a couple of shipments and then when the supplier couldn't provide FLO with an ETA I decided to pay to upgrade to the Diamondbacks instead, which Steve Tonkin (@BinocularSky) tells me are highly regarded by game wardens in Africa.

@FLO have been very helpful in chasing up and providing me with updates, so thank you very much Ann, my birthday present has finally arrived.

Can't wait to use them now.

Thanks Mark, I managed to get a quick look through them after work and I'm pretty impressed with the view which is nice and sharp and contrasty with no obvious false colour when I looked at some dead tree branches against a bright sky.

Looking forward to trying them out at night once the clouds from inside the box disperse.

As it’s cloudy anyway I might as well order some filters…

Baader O-III & Explore Scientific UHC-S arrived for exploring summer nebulosities…

(posh box on that ES one!).

A box from teleskop-express arrived today with a couple goodies for my Lacerta wedge I purchased very cheap from astroshop some time ago. I went for a clicklock since I figured I could always use it in the future.

I'm very happy with the wedge and the accessories I went for, however, the nosepiece might be a little short. Will be fitting a 2" UV/IR block on it as well though.

I also fitted the 2" ND3.0 filter inside the 2" to 1.25" adapter so I don't need to worry about it when changing eyepieces, and I can fit a polarizing filter on the eyepieces as the only filter.

I also switched out the original M54 to 2" adapter on my Evostar 72ED for a click lock so I don't need to worry about the small thumb screws not gripping properly or scratching the diagonal/equipment.

Phew!! That was a lot of stuff:lol: Only have on final (I know, we all say that too much) item arriving soon. That'll be a flight case for my Lacerta wedge, Daystar quark and solar accessories for solar observing.

Oh, and did I mention the terrible weather I also received? (Luckily) I'm used to it by now:clouds2:...

Yes that nosepiece is a bit short but should be OK. The Lacerta nosepiece is a fair bit longer. You could always fit a Baader hyperion finetuning ring if needs be.

Right, I didn't consider that actually. I can get a 14mm Baader extension ring locally, which might not be a bad idea. Thanks!
