Just had a delivery from Thorlabs Gmbh via UPS. It was a rather large and heavy box for a 1" mirror and a diffraction grating:

German sweets, lol. Brought a smile to my face! I presume it was a 'first order' present!

A 0.5" mirror due from them tomorrow...

Time for a coffee and a sweet :)

Just had another, same-sized box of goodies to accompany the 0.5" mirror! Ho ho ho Merry Christmas, Thorlabs!

Not sure how this will be perceived on here, I was after a dew heater for use exclusively with my DSLR, the ones I found were £30-50 with 5 weeks lead time and with the colder weather that wasn't ideal. So I took a look on eBay and managed to find this for £15, a USB 31cm long dew heater. It heats up well and should hopefully do the job, have to wait to use it before I can say what I really think of it.

I got a Canon lens to T2 adapter today, with two 5mm T2 tubes, two 1.5mm tuning rings, and two 0.5 mm tuning rings. Initial impressions are it is really solid and seems to hold my heavy 100mm macro lens well.

https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p7835_TS-Optics-Optics-Adapter-for-Canon-EOS-Lenses-to-T2-for-CCD-cameras---with-1-4--photo-thread.html

I actually made an error in my order and only ordered one 0.5 mm ring, but the Teleskop Service people threw in a second one for free!

I also got a T2 to 1.25" adapter to turn my macro lens into a spotting scope. With a barlow lens screwed to the front of the mirror diagonal I could focus out to about 10 meters. The views were very good indeed - all I need to do is get a prism diagonal to shorten the optical path and I should have enough back focus!

Another thing I need to get eventually:

Post person not attending, but Daughter No. 1 came bearing fruits of her labour at the charity shop.
Made me very happy as my Trio of childhood books is now completed :)

But I was shocked at the price increase..... Paid 65p for a 45p jacket price 🤣

And the final piece...

They both join my finest guide ever, the first one I ever owned.

Bought the Observers Book of Astronomy a few months ago to replace the one that had gone missing years ago. 🙂

Better than your old Tasco but probably about as usefull. 😁

Oh indeed, that is the luxury version of what I had, think my one was a 30mm objective, plastic lensed jobby.
It was of course the tool that made me first look up.

So I had to get a new tripod, the one I got with my DSLR works fine but as it's a 1/4 thread and a quick release plate it just wouldn't take the star adventurer and my DSLR without it wobbling and wouldn't tighten properly. So I have been using the mount for my 127 Mak which is solid but has it's own problems as you can see in the pictures of the Mak tripod and my new one. Mainly being on the Mak one it sits in a cup and I can't access the altitude or azimuth adjustment knobs, so for Polar alignment I'd have to loosen, adjust, tighten, loosen, adjust, tighten etc which gets tedious fast. So hopefully this new one with a solid 3/8 head and more adjustable will do the job!

Nice EP, I had one and liked it a lot, good value and good optics.
Sadly had to sell as would not come to focus in a Vixen scope I own,
had to be replaced with a Panoptic 27mm.

DPD person dropped off a delivery a few minutes ago.
Decided to give a used TV 32mm Plossl a run out again but with a Dioptrx fitted this time.
Last time (3 years ago) I hated it, learnt a lot about EP and my eyes since then of course.

I will report back in the EP section how things go this time around.

Mr DPD delivered this

20191112_131805.thumb.jpg.cebab76e1cc5e73b26ecb5111989b027.jpg

The company name might be a clue for those who know.

Inside was

20191112_132658.thumb.jpg.55ca8c8110b003293725e7cecbc684de.jpg

And four of these

20191112_132633.thumb.jpg.34855a9e7b566fac64dfb78a94442bfd.jpg

A NAS box and 24 TB of storage which I'll set up in RAID 5 to give me 18 TB net. I did consider RAID 6 but would need more drives to not eat into the storage too much.

Nice!!  Very nice!!!

It would have been even nicer if Thecus had supplied a UK plug (Is this even legal?). Fortunately I remembered I had a couple of adaptors from a US / Chinese battery powered monitor for their chargers so was able to use one of them for this. Still not happy though.
