What did the postman bring?

Well, not the postman per se, but Santa Claus should be bringing me an Astronomik UHC filter, and a couple of BST Starguider EPs along with a Cheshire collimator. Unless my wife decided to go off list and "suprise" me... fingers crossed that crazy thought didn't cross her mind.

I ordered a few items yesterday, since i upgraded from my ED80 + Canon to Esprit + ASI1600, my other gear is gathering dust so i decided tot build a lightweight AP setup.

So the first item to arrive today is a 14" laptop, specifically a HP 14" I3 256SSD 8GB RAM.

At first i was planning on getting the ZWO ASIAIR Pro, but there are always going to be some limitations to this, so i went for the laptop to get full control as i'm used to.

have fun with that John, I've a few SMD LED's I need soldering onto an old GPS HUD but last time I gave that a go I found I was good at melting them so gave up in the end. Must have another look, one day but its low priority. Solder paste and flux and a v fine tipped iron or hot air station would be best but for a one-off I wasn't looking to invest much in kit. For sure the microscope will help a lot :)

SMD practice kit and a PCB holder. Now to give soldering suface mount components a go. 🙀🙀🙀

At least with the microscope and monitor I’ll be able to see what I’m doing. 👍🏻

Hey. That's very cool. I'm also very much into electronics and Arduino programming etc...a few years ago I bought a load of surface mount LEDs, not realising I had no way of soldering them! I'd love to hear how this works for you. Enjoy!

Cheers

Had the original Steeltrack on my OO UK 14” dob. Very, very nice focuser. 👍🏻

I'm considering the diamond one for my 12". Its design looks very promising to me.

The postie wasn't involved in the first purchase, but walking past a market stall, these fingerless gloves with grippy palms caught my eye for a quid. A bargain!

To compliment the gloves, the AZ GTI expected to arrive on Monday came today. Wahay!

Fuelled by frustration I may start poppin into the work's chapel on the way to breakfast and praying for clear skies.

Santa and the overworked delivery guys brought me:

- An Astronomik UHC filter.

- 12mm and 8mm 60deg BST Starguiders.

- A laser collimator.

- An adjustable height stool to use with my XT8.

And so far I have only managed to use the 12mm for 5 mins during a rare break in the cloud. ☹️

Fingerscrossed, the weather forecast looks favourable for Sunday evening.

Cheers
