Homemade DIY Binoviewer.

Recommended Posts

You might laugh at me and say beneath your breath "NO way will this work" but I need to ask.

Will this work?

Can I make a binoviewer from a microscope binocular head such as the one in the following e-bay link. I'm sure i can make the adapters needed to join binocular head to my focuser. But will it still work, will I be able to view through it, and what are the pitfalls I might encounter?

No just an idea at the moment. I will add it to the list of ideas I have whirling around my little brain. If I ever make one I'll post a build thread here on SGL.

This device is(was) used in a microscope, regular astronomical eyepieces will not fit in this viewer if I'm not mistaken.

I know I have a collection of microscope eyepieces that I use on my telescope via an adapter.

I remember the idea from years ago

https://www.google.com/search?q=microscope+head+for+binoviewers+site:www.cloudynights.com&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiF97mLrqrYAhXCWSYKHSsgAzYQrQIIPSgEMAA&biw=1600&bih=763

One thread is even titled "Microscope Binoviewer's Advantage," so there must be some merit. We went another direction so I never knew the outcomes.
