Rolling Roof Design Referral

Recommended Posts

I've trolled numerous forums and have various ROR ideas, but can anyone can RECOMMEND A QUALITY ROR DESIGNER for a 19' x 24' structure? No telescope stuff needed, I just need top notch materials, safety, engineering for the motorized structure.  I can build and install it, but will gladly compensate someone for their expertise and sourcing so I don't have to learn the mistakes.  Much appreciated.

I don't know if they'd give you the design and materials, but it might be worth trying Home Observatory UK.  They made a particularly nice ROR on Sark a little while back, 16' x 10', but they may have done larger ones too.

I'd have thought any fabricator of steel buildings would be able to spec and build such a roof. You could also ask an architect or structural engineer to draw up a design.

Yes, I can definitely ask any local architect or structural engineer...but Seattle is Boomtown with Amazon at the moment and I don't need the custom scope and exorbitant prices they'll charge - prices are beyond stupid for anything in the building trades now. Ideally I'm looking for someone who's already done some nice motorized systems before so they can tweak whatever worked previously to my application. Thx

Update... I've spoken with both a garage door and gate company, and both don't want to the liability of a roof project...even though I'm clearly explaining that I just want their help purchasing the proper motors and sensors. You'd think they'd be glad to sell me the pieces, as I'm willing to pay whatever they charge for consulting, but they just want to make a lot of money on installing everything.

A quick Google revealed www.backyardobservatories.com among others

There must be countless companies and individuals in USA and maybe a local astronomy club might have some members that could help?

Yep. I sent an email to backyardobservatories already and hope to connect, they're highest on my short list at moment, but their voicemail isn't working so couldn't leave a message. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find, but I'm working various angles. Thx
