Can anyone help me find a 610nm IR pass filter for imaging?

I am trying to locate and buy a 610nm IR pass filter for planetary imaging, specifically Neptune and Uranus.

I have tried all the usual online shops without success. 

Does anyone here know of a UK or European supplier?

610nm is not IR.. it's actually with in visible red, the filter I use which is closest to the filter you mention is a Baader IRPass 685... It serves me well for planetary detail shots, particularly on Jupiter and Saturn... I haven't tried it yet on Uranus and Neptune, but I imagine it would be just as effective.

Huum, I think that you want a deep red filter for that.

A Wratten 29 is 600nm and I bet it will be virtually indistinguishable in its effect. Or Wratten 92, which is 625nm which will be more extreme in its effect but need a bit longer exposures.

I believe this is what you are looking for Pete and as you say is specific for those planets. Wtratten 25 is actually the other option.

These are best for scopes less than 350mm. If you have 350mm+ then the IR685 would be an option but not with 350mm (14") or below.

If the filter required is as the TE one then I cannot see it being much good on Uranus or Neptune. Either planet is basically green/blue or blue/green if the filter required is as indicated then the filter removes all the blue and green and leaves sort of nothing. A red filter blocks Blue and Green wavelengths.

The TS site says:

Blue and blue/green light is nearly completely blocked thus enhancing contrast between bright and dark zones on Jupiter's and Saturn's cloud belts.

. Blue/Green is nearly completely blocked being the applicable bit.

What is it that you want a filter to do or expect the 610nm version to actually do.

Not sure of the amount of IR from either Uranus or Neptune if the intention is to image either in the IR then unsure of the potential success.

Sorry but the above is not correct. What Peter is looking for is the correct filter for what he intends to image.

If you have a bit of a google search you will see that this is the correct filter for imaging his specific targets.

Hi all, thanks for the comments. Thank you Freddie for the link. The 610nm filter is well suited to showing surface storms on the outer planets, especially Neptune.

Wratten 25 is 585nm, so it will work but 29 is closer to 610nm.

I see you say the Baader 610 filter= Wratten 25, but Wratten 25 is a 585nm long pass.

I've put my neck on the line by saying Wratten 29 @ 600nm is a better match...

 

I would add I tried a photographic skylight filter trying to reduce purple haloes and it was awful softening focus across the frame so I don't think the bit about baader filters being 'optically polished' is snake oil.

I used the 1.25" Baader 610 filter order from FLO for this imaging run last year. It comes highly recommended online for the "gas planets" as you can see I have some limited success last year, but not much this year.

If anybody actually wants an IR only filter ( >720nm) then I have a Hoya photographic filter that I don't use. Bit specialist though

The R-iR (longpass) 610nm filter is "the" filter for the Ice Giants.

It was very Much Appreciated As Well,  I have been to match or better those imagea ever since.
