Measuring Double stars

Recommended Posts

Hello there

The resources I'm finding about measuring double stars for the amateur generally all point towards the micrometer eyepiece (with the light up reticle that looks like an outtake from "War Games" or perhaps "Tron") method as the accepted standard. If thats true then great but the articles I'm coming across when searching "how to measure double stars" style searches on google seem to be throwing up documents generally from the first half of the 2000's. Given the continued rate of technological development, I was wondering if the micrometer eyepiece method is still the de facto standard for measuring splits for us low budget amateur mortals or if things have moved on (eg camera based I'm guessing) to a new standard and I am just struggling to find the guides?

Many thanks! Niall
