Mare Serenitatus

Recommended Posts

After a way too long interlude, I've finally got back to do some lunar imaging.  This is my first try out with my new-to-me C9.25 OTA.  The image is a two pane mosaic of the Mare Serenitatus, processed to emphasise the dark edges to the lava plain.

The dark edge is the original lava flow that filled in an impact basin.  The heavy basalt of this lava flow caused the centre of the resulting lava plain to subside.  A later lava flow with a slightly different chemical composition (and lighter colour) then filled in this area of subsidence.

Alignment and stacking was carried out in AS2! with wavelet sharpening in Registax 6 and final sharpening using the Focus Magic plug-in in Photoshop.
