I assume you mean Lepus, not Lupus?  R Leporis  (also known as Hinds Crimson Star) according to what I have read has a period of variability of around 430 days and a quite extreme magnitude variation of 5.5 to 11.7.  Currently it is around 8 so well within range of your 20x80s.
