How do you mount your Telrad?

Recommended Posts

I've just bought a secondhand Telrad (Thanks AdeKing).  I want to mount it on my C.9.25 tube and I was thinking of using double sided foam tape.  So here are my questions.

1 - How do other people attach their Telrad bases to an OTA?

2 - Where is the best place to get double-sided sticky tape/pads?

Thanks

365astronomy sell the genuine Telrad adhesive pads (http://www.365astronomy.com/Telrad-Base-Tape-for-Telrad-Finder.html) but as @triton1 said, the car number plate pads will probably do just as good a job.

One of my Telrads is fixed to the OTA with two bolts (12" Dob), the other uses the sticky pads supplied.

Hope that you enjoy the Telrad Michael.

3M make load bearing velcro designed for hanging pictures. They’re great for sticking anything to a surface, especially if you want to take it on and off.

I added some small blocks to flatten the underside of the Telrad base, so I could add “Command” strips instead of their double sided sticky tape:

I have some black command strips round the ota at different positions. That way I can rotate the tube and snap the telrad back on very quickly. Mainly I just velcro on and off the base part of the telrad during setup/breakdown. The strips also peel off easily with no damage.

I have just made a new 12v supply for my setup and I now use 3M Dual Lock, they are like sticky bricks and are very solid: -

It's not cheap, but is really fantastic for locking things that you might want to remove at the end of a session.
