It is now, and then, after the peak, but if you look long enough, you'll still see some meteors that are attributable to the Orionids. From most accounts, this years Orionids are about average - so you've missed nothing exceptional. But an occasional fireball from the S. Taurids is possible.

There are meteor-showers at all times of the year. That's normal. But here in the US, the media has been 'hyping' the Orionids. So people are rushing to see this 'heavenly event.' Something tells me I'll be addressing a great many people who feel disappointed - having sat outside for hours and only seeing 1 or 2 Orionids crossing the sky.

If you decide to go and watch, please do a count of the average number you see in one hour and let us know? After midnight is usually the best hours. But who really can say?

Enjoy!

Dave
