Single 30s subs of Oban skys..

Recommended Posts

Evening all, as title really, currently on holiday outside of oban scotland, the skys here are amazing (especially compaired to leeds) so ive just spent an hour, abruptly concluded by wildlife, gazing with the 72mm and shooting some singke shots with an unmodded 750d and kit lens, stativ tripod, f3.5, 18mm 30sec's, iso3200 with a uv filter..

A whisky for the nerves is required..

Anyway hope like, just shows the sky quality here!

Don't tell everyone fozzie, they'll all come up here!
I used to live a little further South of Oban, but now I'm  over in the NE Scotland. The skies are just as good when outside the city.
Enjoy your time, especially as the clouds have parted for you.

That last shot is very interesting.  Looks like you may have got some auroral glow on the horizon, were you aiming North-ish ??

I am trying to remember the last time I took a picture of a horizon which did not have a house or steet-light of some kind in it !!  That looks  great.

Is there a reason for the UV filter ??  I might be wrong, but I would have guessed it would filter out some of the starlight and dim the overall effect ??

Do you use the Wi-fi capability of the 750D ??   I was thinking about buying one of these to make my imaging a bit more automated and remote controlled.

.... and the whiskey .... good call.

Hi sean.. that was obe of the main reasons for venturing out, ive been to o an 4 times now around this year and had clojds almost all the time.. ibknow the shots are probably a tad unfocused, and heavy with noise but i felt it fives an idea of what a darknsky should look like..

Anyways.. the last picture was more west than north, couldnt see anything visually there, and looking at a map i think its more likely to be sky glow.. i did take a shot north and it didnt show anything and looked a bit rubbish  (even more than these) so left it out..

The reason for the uv filter is that it was on the stock lens, never took it off..

Finally yeah i use the full wifi capability on the 750d.. with the app on the phone it allows me me full M control from setting appature, iso and exposure, including bulb, to adjusting shoot mode wb and a whole host of stuff im not sure about yet..

Heres that north shot

I have to admit the WiFi functionality is one of the prime reasons I bought my camera, I do all the initial setup and focusing remotely then switch over to a wireless intervalometer to run the actual subs, I do switch between the two to check the focus and framing from time to time.
