First solar image with Quark

This isn't strictly my 1st attempt, I had tried a couple of years ago at SGL 10, using some video clips from Davey-T's Lunt 60 (?).

However, I recently bought a Quark Chromosphere and GPCam 2, and as a 'first (day)light test of some equipment in my nearly complete obsy, I decided yesterday do have a dabble at this solar imaging lark.

Well (drumroll please....), here is my first quark image.

The sky wasn't completely clear here yesterday, with some high cloud, but shadows were fairly defined, so as a test and some learning opportunity I'm very pleased with this.

It's over sharpened, I know that, and there's an artefact in the middle which was a result of me trying to remove a nasty blob from the prom stack but other than that, at least the process works.

Equipment used:

Altair Starwave 102

Baader IR/UV filter

Quark Chromosphere

Interference eliminator (not shown on the above photos, it was fitted after when imaging).

Altair GPCAM 2

500 frames for disc and proms, 20% of each stacked in autostakkert

Bit of wavelets in Registax (perhaps way too much)

Merged and finished off in Photoshop.

I was thinking of getting a smaller FL scope to compliment the long one, but like the idea of long FL on the sun, as mosaics should be fairly straight forwards to do.

I'll bear it in mind though, thanks.

ive the same setup as far as the 102,   f11+4.2 fitted barlow in the quark I find the mag too much but still usable on thoses very rear good seeing days, my other scope I use mostly for HA is my ed80 which I find much more forgiving but saying that ive only had the 102 classic for a few weeks so havnt use it with the quark morethan 2 or 3 times, its great for WL close ups too. charl.

I'm glad I bought it. Looking through the TV 32mm Plossl is lovely and imaging looks like it'll be fun too.

I do get that the FL being quite long may not be ideal for imaging, but will see how it goes.
