Celestron C8 EDGE HD OAG question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is my first real post so apologies if it's a bit of a newbie question :icon_biggrin:

I currently have a finder-guider setup which is, to put it mildly, highly inadequate against my 8" SCT due to the huge difference in scales.  In fact with a decent PA I get far better tracking without guiding; all turning on PHD does is nudge things about every few seconds.

So... I'm seriously considering in moving over to an OAG and before I shell out £'s I'd welcome any advice that people have to offer.

My current setup has a 2" twist-lock eyepiece adaptor on the back of the tube in place of the standard Celestron one. This is primarily so I can easily attach my DSLR which has a 2" nose piece (which in turn holds a 2" filters).  So what I'm kind of hoping is that I can simply insert an OAG between the tube and the twist-lock, if that makes sense.  Ignoring the back-focus changes this also relies on an OAG that as well as attaching to an SCT thread also provides one for my twist-lock to attach to.  I'm leaning towards a Celestron OAG but this is only based on it being Celestron and (in my mind anyway) more likely to be geared to work with a Celestron tube.

Any advice gratefully received...

Rich.
