First attempt at colour saturation

Hi all:

I've been messing around in Gimp and AstroArt attempting to create the sort of saturated colour images that can be found here. I've had little success to date but seem to have finally cracked the principle (my problem was that previously I had not been aligning the colour channels before saturation). So here's my first attempt, from an image I took on 5 September (130 P-DS and ASI1600, 3 minutes each RGB, 3ms exposures).

Comments and thoughts appreciated - my first thought is that the area around Tycho is too bright, so needs a bit of work in that area. Also, there is something going on with the limb (a bright border which I suspect is an artefact of sharpening - anyone have any advice on what to do about that?)

Cheers,

Billy.
