Looks amazing, did you lay those slabs yourself? Hurts my back just thinking about it...

Unfortunately not, back and neck injuries meant I had to get someone in to do it

Always a good thing! I've laid a couple myself, really stressful. If there's a 1mm lip anywhere I find myself staring at it and cursing until the point where I end up relaying half the patio. You ever seen that episode of father ted where he tries to knock the dent out of that car? It's like that!

And, as an example for an expert to demonstrate  collimating a Newtonian, this would be perfect.

every bolt on the secondary was loose, surprised the secondary hadn’t come out in transit.

OK, to be fair, it came from FLO, so I know it would have been secured:), and it was a customer return.

anyway, it’s good enough for 1st light I hope, and I can get it on the bench tomorrow hopefully

Of course, with an equatorial head, you don't need to have the top of the pier level in either direction. (Although the perfectionist in me will I'm sure try and make sure my pier is as level as possible! Not far off that stage now with my build :wink:).

EDIT - Hmm, seem to have responded to a previous post (note to self - always click on the next page button before submitting reply!). Anyhoo -

Looks really neat with the OTA's on-boarded. I'm very envious of your horizons!

Do you plan to build an observatory around it?  This is the Observatories sub-section after all :wink:

My OCD forces me to get it as close to level as possible, As I said, a decent 3 star alignment will sort the rest ??

horizons are ok, it the LP tho I need to deal with - street lights 100’ away, and a zoo about 800yds - well, it seems like that.

Already done the ‘observatory’..... one step at a time.

Something some what more permanent will follow.

unfortunately our youngest daughter started a new job Monday, so, design has had to go on hold.

For what it is worth, feedback on first trail

poor focus ( manually without bahtinov mask, , colllimation needs serious work and I need calibration frames - later today maybe

no guiding as I couldn't get the guide cam to connect

total rubbish, but I have no patience

Looks absolutely super... first light tonight?

pretty much rubbish

new OTA (needs collimating), on new pier, and the camera is recent purchase that I don't have time spent on yet

I'm going to put this session down as a non-runner pending tuning - I expect that that fits the rules for '1st lighy'; one needs to get it set up properly first.

OK, results from the other night,

about 50 mins in total usable from 3hrs. 23 x 30s each of LRGB

unguided, no coma corrector.

Full details in my 1st light thread;

collimation was recorded in my Quattro 10 F.C. collimating thread;

I expect this to be last post on this thread for some time now.

the optics are more or less sorted, the hardware and IT are in place.

all the remains is the building around it, my daughter will be looking at the design next month.

shows the ASI1600MM cooled, with EFW. The coma corrector is fitted

This shows the stick pc and usb hub which connect focus motor for guide and imaging OTA (tested and working, but need to find best location for each controller) as well as filter wheel and cameras.

Great progress... and some nice clean new looking gear.

Only because I tried to clean everything, removing dust, slug trails and spider webbing,  to make it all look nice and shiny

There are many DIY builds detailed in https://stargazerslounge.com/forum/61-diy-observatories/

I'm in between a roll away sentry box, and a lowish(ish) walled box with roll off roof.

advantages to both, I don’t need a warm room so, it can be 6’ x 6’, maybe less, if choose the latter option

Thanks for the idea.. checking the thread now.
