Everything seemed to be fine right until we stepped out the car, to see about 40% of the sky covered in cloud. The forecast had been positive and it seemed OK when we left the house.

Thankfully, in a small blessing, the cloud was in large clumps so we could see parts of the sky at any given time. We managed to see the veil (by 52cyg) and the ring nebula, also some star cluster in the middle of the milky way underneath the Sagittarius star cloud which I could have sworn had a dark nebula inside of it, but who knows.

Worth getting out to remind me that there is at least something up there, the weather has been so bad recently I was starting to forget there was something above the clouds.

Yeah, slim pickings here too lately. Managed a couple of hours the other night under less than ideal conditions, but at least managed to see a few things again before I gave up due to high cloud. Hope we get some decent skies soon.

Scope = cloud magnet :rolleyes2:

You have to grab the gaps though so scopes that can be set up quickly (and bought in quickly) score here :icon_biggrin:

Over the past week I've managed a number of short bursts of observing rather than any sort of prolonged session. The tantalising thing is that between the clouds the skies seem to have been really good.

Yeah, the other night the seeing was so good I could see the join between the sea and the horizon... Normally by the sea there's at least a little bit of haze, even near the ground. But not that night.
