Hello and welcome to SGL  :happy11:.

Yes, it is a very good idea to ask around here before purchasing Your first telescope.

SGL has friendly, helpful members and they are very knowledgeable indeed. Most certainly helped me.

Well sounds good but when you dig into general relativity gravity is not a force, it is just an effect we experience caused by the distortion of space-time. Newtons interpretation of it as a "force" is just a very good approximation and a way of explaining what we see.

So there is nothing actually pulling you.

Sorry to add to the confusion, well not really. :icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin:

What scope have you got or which one are you comtemplating.

Hello and welcome to the community, here in S G L we love spending your money for you, and don't forget

once astronomy grips you, there's no turning back, it gets to be an obsession, a wonderful obsession though.

Good Luck and Clear Sky's.

Hello and a warm welcome to the SGL. The 200mm Dob is a great choice for a first scope. Not sure about your post re stands.  You do not need any other mount if you get a Dob. It comes on a simple AZ mount.

Thanks, need to give this a little more thought as I've realised both those are far to big.

Thanks folks.

Im currently looking at these 2....

Any recommendations would be gratefully received...

The SW Skyliner 200p is the telescope I want to get next as well and have read nothing but great reviews on it ... size-wise too , it really looks like a proper , serious bit of kit !

Welcome to the forum. I would still consider the 200 Dobs much easier to get to grips with as a beginner than the 130 on an equitorial mount.??

Welcome Matt. My scope is the Meade Polaris 130 you mentioned looking at

I only use it for astrophotography and not for visual but can answer general questions on it.

The most appropriate scope will depend on what you wish to do with it (e.g. observe the Moon) - a single scope can't really do everything.
